A town the size of Reading with a massive infrastructure, including an airport, hospital and fast-food restaurants, has been dismantled bolt by bolt - a huge project that faced a constant threat from the Taliban as defences and manpower depleted daily. This documentary follows the men and women assigned to the task. The huge project is being done also with constant threat of the Taliban striking at any moment The colonel in charge of the job is not the gimlet-eyed tough guy you might expect but a cheery chap who looks out for the local pigeons. In the most revealing and blackly funny scenes, the Afghan colonel he will hand over to tours the base and grumbles to his translator about how mean the Brits are being about what they’re leaving behind. But he tells the translator: “Say ‘You have spent a lot here, thank you’.”
