Information
In a quiet corner of an ordinary street in Oxfordshire live a family who look like any other. Except that Hayley and Richard Davies-Monk have two boys - Spencer and Lewis - with Tourette's syndrome, a neurological disorder. The boys' condition is expressed in uncontrollable physical and verbal 'tics' that can often include inappropriate or taboo phrases. Spencer describes having Tourette's as being 'like your little buddy who's annoying, but a part of you'. The family have struggled with the public's reaction to the boys' Tourette's. Hayley says 'The anxiety comes from the reaction of other people and the fear of what's going to happen. But we're never embarrassed by our children'. Now, after years of keeping themselves to themselves, they want to 'come out' to the world. From meals out to day trips and their first ever holiday abroad, the family confront the challenges of dealing with the everyday reality of living with Tourette's.
