Live action is interspersed with pre-recorded footage of expeditions around the world, and this edition features a helicopter ride around the Eyjafjallajoekull volcano. Plus, comedian Ed Byrne heads to Bristol University to learn about different eruptions.[edit] Destruction and Rebirth Kate Humble and Iain Stewart visit the site of the 1969 Mauna Ulu eruption in Hawaii, which covered 17 square miles of rainforest in lava. Ed Byrne also carries out an experiment using a bin, plastic balls and liquid nitrogen to mimic a supervolcanic eruption, and Kate finds a volcano in Iceland that could dwarf the trouble caused by Eyjafjallajokull during the spring of 2010.
