From the train driver to the illegal hawker and the homeless shoe-shine boy, each has a story to tell about this remarkable railway system, often described as the lifeline of India.
Pressures
The strain of transporting the railway's millions of passengers is demonstrated in the tales of a number of its workers, including driver OP Chaturvedi, who has run over about 70 people during his long service.
Dreams
Follow the dreams of railway employees such as Mumtaz Kaz, India's first female train driver, who has to find a wife for her brother and get him married in just eight weeks - all while working full-time.
