The helicopter turned the tide, revolutionising the face of warfare at a stroke and laying down a blueprint for the future.Air mobility was a the watchword as the war ebbed and flowed, the helicopters vulnerability to ground fire at take-off and landing, combated by gunship escorts which laid down a withering field of fire. Flying from forward bases, the helicopter took the war to an elusive enemy and proved a key element in a campaign where every victory was hard-won.The war may ultimately have been lost, but the air cavalry concept remains a key military strategy today. With much previously-classified film footage from both ground and air, this video examines the integral role played by the helicopter.
