But this year, a terrible drought has hit the region and the termites, usually a precious ally to the Mofu, have left the fields and invaded the huts and granaries. To fight back, the Mofu shaman calls for Jaglavak, a ferocious army ant with the body of a dragon. The ant is protected by a thick carapace and armed with terrifying pincers that cut, tear and slice through anything in its path. Using high-tech macro shooting techniques, the film goes underground and gives us a terrifying up-close look at a termite's fortress and the war that rages between termites and Jaglavak.Filmed in High Definition, "Master of the Killer Ants" garnered best film awards at the Shanghai Film Festival and Japan's Wildlife Film Festival. The stunning footage includes different castes of termites coursing through their intricate tunnels—and the monstrously egg-swollen queen herself, rippling with the contractions that deposit thousands of eggs per day. The climax comes as the invading driver ants close in on the queen's royal cell.
