David Lean's Academy Award–winning account of T.E. Lawrence's efforts to unify nomadic tribes against the Ottoman Turks during World War I is equal parts war film and existential romance, as the arid expanses of the desert draw the British scholar and adventurer into their beckoning, soul-stirring emptiness.
Due to his knowledge of the native Bedouin tribes, British Lieutenant T.E. Lawrence (Peter O'Toole) is sent to Arabia to find Prince Faisal (Alec Guinness) and serve as a liaison between the Arabs and the British in their fight against the Turks. With the aid of native Sherif Ali (Omar Sharif), Lawrence rebels against the orders of his superior officer and strikes out on a daring camel journey across the harsh desert to attack a well-guarded Turkish port.
Overlaid with Maurice Jarre's unforgettable score, a magnificent cast — including Alec Guinness, Omar Sharif, Anthony Quinn, Claude Rains, and of course Peter O'Toole, who became an instant star as the eccentric and inscrutable Lawrence — and exquisite renderings of the vast, shimmering sands in Freddie Young's magnificent cinematography, Lawrence of Arabia is the greatest of all great, sprawling epics.

An informative, exclusive hour-long making-of feature that explores not just the production history of Lawrence of Arabia but the meaning of the film as well. Documentary recalls the life of T.E. Lawrence, the marriage of Lawrence's story and film, the initial film discussions and how David Lean came to be attached to the project, the process of assembling a script, casting, costuming, working in the desert and scouting desert locations, the challenges of the shoot, Lean's exacting ways, anecdotes from the set, cinematography and the process of crafting some of the film's most difficult scenes, Sam Spiegel's arrest during the shoot, themes and character arcs, the editing process, scoring the film, the film's release, its restoration, and its legacy.
